A small town South African girl and adventure seeking New Zealand boy both swiped right looking for love and friendship in a new country they both now called home. Their first date was set for the iconic Little Creatures in Fremantle. Jason, being an avid gamer was midway through an intense game and almost cancelled – but boy was he glad he didn’t when he first laid eyes on Bronwyn.

After dating for a few years and building a beautiful home together, Jason decided it was time to drop down on one knee. The timing was perfect with both their parents visiting from South Africa and New Zealand. Surrounded by friends and family in their newly built home, Jason surprised Bronwyn with a beautiful ring and a question she was waiting for him to ask. She was so surprised, that for the first time in her life she was speechless.

Their wedding was planned to take place at a private villa in Canguu, Bali. They thought this was the best location, not only because of its beauty but also because it was a central location for family and friend to travel and enjoy the occasion with some added luxury and relaxation time.

The dress was bought, bridesmaids and groomsmen ready to go and invitations were sent and then… COVID19! Hoping that travel restrictions would loosen so that their wedding could proceed they waited as long as possible to make the hard decision to postpone their Bali celebrations but did not want to wait to start their next chapter together and planned an intimate wedding right here in Perth.

Bronwyn being an amazing organiser jumped into planning a beautiful intimate wedding in just 8 weeks. She dried out flowers to make her bouquet and had a beautiful felt cake topper made that looked just like her, Jason and their two pups. Bronwyn and Jason were able to get the same date for a ceremony at the Old Tower House with a small reception with her 16 guests at the Coogee Common.

One thing they forgot was that they would need to ask for witnesses and, unexpectedly asked their neighbour who happened to be in the front row. Luckily, he was more than happy to do it. Jason just started laughing as he saw Bronwyn start walking towards him.

The ceremony was live streamed to in a Facebook group and asked their family and friends to dress up for the occasion and join in the celebrations with us. One of their favourite moments was video calling their families after the ceremony while in the backseat of the car heading to the reception.

After their wedding the advice Bronwyn and Jason can give to future couples is to keep it simple and choose things that will make you happy…not for anyone else. Also take time for yourselves at some stage otherwise you’ll spend the whole time making sure everyone is ok. Before getting married, they wished they realised how expensive weddings could be and depending on the size of the wedding you might end up paying for the wedding day months or even years after the actual day.

Being married to your best friend means that you are never alone, you get to experience life’s ups and downs, celebrations and challenges together and support each other to be stronger.
